Nairobi

The thug in the streets,
The drunk in the corner,
The cries in the night,
The violence of the dark.
The shadows creep towards the street light,
Hiding the silent fight.
A knife, swift; grinning death, striking fast.
A flashing “Kanjo”light,
Sirens split the night.
A man on the roof,
A thief at the window.
The wind rattles an empty can.
The darkness pushing down,
Swirling all around,
Paints a picture of my city’s life.
